On 23 June 2011 the heritage-listed building adjacent to our offices in New Acton was significantly damaged by fire. Our thoughts and sympathies are with the Efkarpidis family and other business operators affected. Fortunately, due to the quick response of staff and emergency personnel, no one was injured.
Last Thursday, 23 June 2011, at around 4:30pm, our afternoon was interrupted by a fire alarm. Within minutes we had evacuated our office, shocked at the sight of smoke and flames escaping from the roof of the building adjacent ours. We watched and waited for further news.
No doubt due to the quick response of workers in New Acton and emergency services, no one was injured in the fire. We heard that 80-85% of the building next to our office premises was damaged. Fortunately for our clients and staff, our offices were left undamaged. Our thoughts are with those whose businesses whose operations have been affected and who face the difficult task of re-building. Sadly, the building is also heritage-listed, forming an integral part of Canberra’s rich history and development of our nation’s capital.
We take this opportunity to thank our clients, colleagues and referrers for the overwhelming support we have been offered following this terrible event. We thank you for your patience and cooperation during our brief relocation to temporary premises. We would like to reassure our clients that it is business as usual and we will be operating from our beloved New Acton premises after power has been restored. In the meantime, we can still be contacted via our number at 02 6212 7600 and our usual email addresses.
