NFAW Press Club Event

On Tuesday 11 November 2014 Julie Dobinson, Di Simpson and Sally McGuinness attended an event at the National Press Club, hosted by the National Foundation for Australian Women (NFAW). Eminent Anthropologist Professor Emerita, Diane Bell spoke of “Science matters: where are the young women?”.

DDCS Lawyers was proud to sponsor the event, attended by over 100 people interested in this important topic. Di Simpson is the Vice-President of the NFAW.

Many of the women who attended spoke of their own experiences and challenges in pursuing careers in science in Australia. With the continuing commoditisation of science, the future of research in fields not immediately linked to the economic targets set by this Government, remain grim. While the participation of men and women is largely comparable at graduate and post graduate levels, only 17% of appointments at senior lecturer level or above are women.

Professor Bell’s challenging speech may be found on the NFAW’s website (www.nfaw.org). DDCS’ support of the NFAW is another example of the firm’s interest in supporting passionate men and women in our community striving to improve opportunities for all.
